HotBX Case Study

Frank and Jenny are the owners of a six bed roomed guesthouse in a popular tourist destination on the Garden Route.

Guests were increasingly asking them if they have internet access. Eager to please they often ended up having to let guests use there own computer in order to access their e-mails and find information on the internet that they were seeking.

Whilst happy to assist guests wherever possible, it was an impractical solution and often inconvenient for both them and their guests.

Someone suggested to them that they 'open up their network' and this would allow guests to log on their network and access the internet. This seemed a good solution until one day when Frank and Jenny's internet was cut off!

A guest had downloaded some very large e-mails and had used up their entire bandwidth amount for the month.

It took 4 days to get more bandwidth, meaning they were offline and unable to receive booking requests or send and receive e-mails, in addition to this it cost over R200 for more bandwidth.

This seemingly good solution in practise did not work and in fact caused more problems!

Frank and Jenny now have HotBX installed and their internet problems are a thing of the past:
  • There costs for HotBX and ADSL total R500 per month
  • They on sell bandwidth for R100 per 100MB, therefore just one guest per week requiring access not only covers their HotBX cost but also their ADSL costs. Making them over R200 per month better off.
  • It was easy to install and even easier to operate the system with guests simply purchasing vouchers.
  • They can easily regulate the amount of bandwidth used and sold therefore never having to worry about being cut off again!

So their guests now enjoy internet access and Frank and Jenny some additional income!
